Here’s to a merry christmas and a happy new year!
Details on the agreement between Nikon and UCSF for SIM can be found Here.
Nikon dropped big news at ASCB when they announced the development of two new super resolution microscopes. Two different technologies were announced, STORM and SIM.
The SIM technique was developed by Dr. Mats Gustaffsen, Dr. John Sedat and Dr. David Agard at UCSF. The technology doubles the XY resolution of a traditional CLSM, using a structured [...]
Hamamatsu has released a dual chip camera for ratiometric applications. The camera includes 2 of the ER-150 CCD’s, with one chip supporting discreet focusing, which allows the system to be chromatically aligned. Key features of this system are:
Electronically linked filter cubes that auto-configure the camera for use.
Independent focusing between CCD’s, X/Y translation is automatically performed [...]
Andor had it’s new ICX-285-based Clara camera and revolution DSD Confocal on display. Key features of the Clara camera are:
1Mhz readout mode for very low read noise imaging
Deep cooling capability at -45c
Simple USB interface
The Revolution DSD confocal is a new white light system that uses a transmission and reflection pattern to produce a confocal image. [...]
Prior has released a new Proscan 3 controller. This includes a new joystick which has some nice programming of it’s wheel functions. The controller supports TTL, Filter wheels, Shutters and XYZ encoded motors.
Stopped by the sutter booth to check out the XL. It’s been out for a while but it’s always good to see. They had it running in a filter wheel loop for the duration of the show.
Key features of this system are:
10,000 hr bulb lifetime
intensity stable
better stability over bulb life
integration with filter wheel and shutters
3i (Intelligent Imaging Innovations) Has added 2 Photon capability to their live animal Vivo microscopy system, and they had a unit running at the show.
Key features of this system are:
Competitive Price point ($250-300k)
Coupling ability with the SAC system
Camera can be coupled to system to support traditional widefield imaging.
I’ve added a Lambda XL driver to the free macros list that will enable the start and stop of the lamp from within Elements.
This hasn’t been widely tested so give it a shot and let me know what you think!
You can find the driver on the resources page or click here.
I’ll be attending the ASCB conference tomorrow and will report on the latest technology available to our industry. I’m really looking forward to checking out the multi-photon systems now available!
